UWOSA is an independent union representing approximately 860 administrative and technical staff at the University of Western Ontario. "Dinner at our House" Volunteer with UWOSA at Ronald McDonald House

Dear Fellow UWOSA Member,

Our Membership Newsletter and Social Committee invites you to the following volunteer opportunity:

Ronald McDonald House London (RMHL) “Dinner at our House”

Please join your fellow UWOSA colleagues as we come together for Dinner at our House nights at Ronald McDonald House London (RMHL). The RMHL Dinner at our House program provides a welcoming, supportive and secure environment to out-of-town families of seriously ill or injured children who are in London receiving medical treatment.

On the dates listed below, a group of our members (8-10 individuals per/dinner night) will help plan, purchase, and prepare dinner for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House (approximately 60+ individuals).

To help with the cost of the dinner which includes the entrée, salad, juice, & dessert, our members who volunteer to participate will be asked to contribute $10 (cash) that will be used to purchase the dinner items.

UWOSA Dinner Dates:

* Thursday, June 22, 2017
* Thursday, November 23, 2017
* Thursday, December 5, 2017

Time Commitment for each dinner:
The approximate time commitment is 3-4 hours from preparation to clean up.

Location:  The dinners will be held at the Ronald McDonald House London (RMHL) at 741 Baseline Road East, London Ontario

Arrival and Preparation: 4:00 p.m. (varies on the dinner preparation time needed)

Dinner: 6:00 p.m.

Clean Up and Departure: 7:30 p.m.

Please bring your $10 cash contribution towards the Dinner at our House by Wednesday January 25, 2017 (3:00 p.m.) to the UWOSA Office Room 255.

Sign Up Procedure:

If you are interested in participating in any of the Dinner at our House volunteer nights, please sign-up by clicking on the UWOSA Volunteer Sign Up Sheet below. Please write your name, email address, and your preference for the dates listed by indicating the number for your first, second, third etc. choices.

Any dates you do not wish to volunteer or are unavailable, please write “N/A” in the column.

You will be contacted shortly after the January deadline date by one of the MNS Committee members with further details and information about your dinner date selection(s). We will confirm and check-in with you about your interest and availability for the later dates.

Families and Guest Info

For those who have families and guest wishing to participate, we will be doing the following

FIRST PRIORITY will be for individual UWOSA members

SECOND PRIORITY will be for families and UWOSA member guests (UWOSA member must attend with their guest for the Dinner Date).

The minimum age for children to participate is 9 years old and above.

All participants including children and guest are asked to contribute the $10 (cash) for the purchase of the dinner items.

In the sign-up sheet in the column labelled Family/Guest please indicate the number of children and guest who will attend with you.

Congratulations! 2017 United Way Labour Appreciation Award - UWOSA Recipient

Congratulations to the UWOSA 2017 United Way Labour Appreciation Award Recipient.

Please join us in congratulating our fellow UWOSA member Andrea Baker, as she is the 2017 United Way Labour Appreciation Award Recipient.

This award recognizes a member’s tireless community advocacy and activities.

Andrea’s genuine desire to give back to her community, by going above and beyond to generate the best results, is evident with the widely successful Starbucks Thursdays initiative in support of United Way. Update from UWOSA

September 28, 2017

Fellow UWOSA Member:

This is to notify you that the Board of Governors ratified the UWOSA Collective Agreement on September 26, 2017 and we were notified by Human Resources late yesterday afternoon.

Information sessions regarding job evaluation, appeal process, and retroactivity sessions will be presented by Human Resources in mid to late October 2017. Please watch your email for an invitation, and please plan to attend.

Specific information regarding the information sessions will also be posted to the UWOSA website.

Vacancy: Stewards Council: Area Stewards
The purpose of a UWOSA Steward is to represent the members in the area that they serve. This can be the area at the University where the Steward works or anywhere on campus if the position is filled in the member’s direct area.

General responsibilities are to attend bi-monthly Steward Council meetings (see Article 7: Union Representation), bring concerns of members to the attention of Executive Officers, to explain articles within the collective agreement to members, be available, where appropriate to accompany any member who requests union representation (except Article 11, 13 and Article 24 meetings), and to establish a higher profile for UWOSA in departments and units on all campuses of Western University.

We are asking members to consider joining the Stewards Council to represent the following areas for the second year of a two-year electoral term (May 2017 to April 30, 2018):
* ACVS/Robarts
* VP External, VP Research
* Libraries (alternate)
* Science (alternate)

Call for Standing Committee Members:

Constitution and Bylaws:
The Constitution & Bylaws Committee reviews, and recommends changes to the Constitution and Bylaws. It accepts suggestions from Stewards Council, Association Members, and the Executive Committee for consideration. Recommendations are submitted in writing to Stewards Council and if approved, are put forth to the membership for discussion and vote. If interested in joining this committee, please fill out a Committee Appointment Request form Application for UWOSA Committee Appointment and send it to Meg Perinpanayagam at 255 UCC.

Finance:
The Finance Committee develops short-term and long-term budgetary plans for the union, reviews monthly profit and loss statements, and recommends operating funds to be approved by Executive Committee, Stewards Council and the Membership at the end of each fiscal year (May 1 - April 30). The Finance Committee also meets with the union's financial advisors on investment portfolios and establishes procedures for payment distribution in the event of a strike.

Membership, Newsletter, and Social:
The Membership Newsletter & Social Committee is responsible for planning annual events, assist with training and development events (i.e., retreat), assist with community support projects (i.e., hamper program for the Salvation Army) and volunteer opportunities (Ronald McDonald House). In additions the MNS Committee writes articles for the Association's newsletter and finds promotions and discounts from London and surrounding venues to offer to our members (i.e., Columbia Store and Union Savings).
