Mental Health First Aid Trainings

Mental Health First Aid Canada trainingis being offered at no cost to employees.

The next scheduled course is this October. It is scheduled over four mornings: October 17, 19, 23 & 25, from 8:45am-12:00pm each day. (Attendance at all dates required).

At Western, mental health issues affect our staff, faculty, students and their friends and families. In fact, one in four Canadian workers will experience a mental health issue within the next 12 months, and 500,000 are absent from work on any given day due to a mental health problem.

Participants in the course will learn how to help someone showing signs of a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. To date over 900 Western leaders, faculty and staff have completed the Mental Health First Aid certification program.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Cara Carson, Learning & Development, Western, at ccarso6@uwo.ca.

UWOSA Ratifies Collective Agreement

Fellow UWOSA Members,

We have ratified a new collective agreement by a vote of 93.14%. (The breakdown was 367 yes, 27 no, 1 abstention).

A tentative agreement was reached between UWOSA and Western University the afternoon of August 4, 2017. We had been without a contract since June 30, 2017.

On behalf of the negotiations team, we once again, thank the membership for their overwhelming support during negotiations and towards the ratification of this agreement. We also thank our brothers and sisters in other unions on campus for their support.

Details of the Collective Agreement will be released once Western's Board of Governors approves it.

In Solidarity,
