There are three issues about which I would like to briefly report. Those issues are:
- Update on the Displacement Process
- UWO Committee Opportunities
- Reminder - Seniority List
I invite comments, suggestions, or concerns about these (or any) issues. Feel free to contact me by email or phone (x85041). Please note that the volume of emails is currently very high - your patience is appreciated, and I will reply as soon as possible.
Note: Some members have noticed that these bulletins are not all received at the same time. This is because the bulletin in sent in batches over a few hours. This helps avoid email being identified as "spam". All members should have each bulletin within 5 or 6 hours of it being published.
Displacement Process Update
We continue to wait for the Administration to begin the displacement process. However, there are a few updates to the information previously provided.
- It now appears that there will not be any displacements until at least the second week in July, and perhaps later than that. It also appears that the Administration will not identify all of the displacements at once (so the process will become more of a continuous stream rather than a sudden burst of activity). The delay is not surprising, given the volume of information which must be considered in the displacement process.
- The number of members in displacement is now 21. This number is smaller than anticipated as the result of decisions by some members to leave the University rather than displace.
- There are a number of vacant jobs (positions the UWO intends to fill but which have not yet been posted). Before anyone is displaced, the UWO must attempt to fill vacancies with those members whose positions have been eliminated. This, we trust, will reduce the number of displacements which actually occur. This activity we expect to start very soon.
We will continue to provide updates as new information is available.
Committee Opportunities
Members of UWOSA sit on a number of UWO and joint UWO/UWOSA committees. We currently have two vacancies which must be filled.
- The University of Western Ontario Laboratory and Environmental Safety Committee is a subcommittee of the University Health and Safety Committee (UHSC) and makes recommendations to the UHSC on all matters pertaining to laboratory and environmental safety at Western. You must have assigned work in a laboratory to be eligible for this appointment. More information about the committee is available in its Terms of Reference.
- The Parking Appeals Committee hears appeals of tickets issued on university property, and makes recommendations regarding changes to parking regulations to the Advisory Committee on Parking and Traffic. More information about the committee is available in MAPP Policy 1.22
These appointments will be made by the Council of Representatives at its July 15 meeting. To apply, please complete an Application Form and send it to the UWOSA office to my attention. Applications must be received by July 13. For more information about either of these committees or the appointment process, please contact anyone in the UWOSA office or your Steward.
Seniority List
As announced in the last bulletin, a new seniority list is now posted on the UWOSA website. If you have not already done so, it is important that you check your seniority and service dates to ensure that they are accurate.
