President's Bulletin: January 5, 2010

Printer-friendly version

Before I begin, let me wish each of you a Happy New Year. I hope that everyone had a terrific Holiday Season! I recognize that this is a busy time for most members, and so this bulletin will be very brief.

Feel free to contact me about these or any issues. I can be reached by email through this link or by phone at (519.661.2111 x85041).

Layoff Update

The layoff process (which began last May) continues to proceed slowly, and the number of members in the displacement process now stands at 7 (down 1 from my last update). We anticipate the process will continue for most of the rest of the academic year.

UWOSA Retreat - Last Chance to Register

UWOSA's annual retreat, "Meeting the Challenge: Life and Work in 2010", will be held Saturday, January 30. This day-long event offers members the opportunity to learn about a variety of topics - some serious, some not. For more information, see the flier in your mailbox (or view it here). A registration form is included - the registration deadline has been extended to January 11, 2009.

New Member Welcome/Orientation - January 27

The next welcome/orientation session for new members will be held on January 27 from 12-1pm or 1-2pm (location to be determined). Recent new hires will automatically receive an invitation in about a week. However, anyone interested is welcome to attend and you can register by sending me an email or calling the UWOSA office at (519) 661-3028.

Other Reminders/Updates

  • The next General Meeting will be held in mid or late February. This will not be a release time meeting and will be held at 4:30. Watch for the date soon.
  • While Steward Training has been delayed as a result of other priorities, we plan to hold it in early spring. Watch for details soon.
