Bargaining Bulletin: January 25, 2010

This is an update on what is happening with the Negotiations Committee.

First, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who filled out and returned the survey. This information is used by the committee, and later the Team, in setting priorities. I would also like to thank the members of the Negotiations Committee as these members have been spending a lot of volunteer time doing the investigation required to provide the entire committee with a better understanding of what our members concerns are.

The Negotiations Committee has been meeting once every two weeks since November and the Committee members continue to work diligently on behalf of our entire membership. Members of this committee agreed on Articles of our Collective Agreement to be investigated and have prepared and presented their findings to the rest of the committee.

Once the Committee wraps up, the Executive Committee will receive and vigorously and thoroughly consider their recommendations and reports. The knowledge and experience of our Executive Committee may give rise to consideration of other Articles of our Collective Agreement which would then also be reviewed.

Soon after this, the selection of the Negotiating Team will take place. The Negotiating Team is made up of the President (Constitution Article 7.3), the Vice President (Constitution Article 7.4), the Chief Steward (Constitution Article 7.5), up to three additional UWOSA Members (Collective Agreement Article 7.03), and our Business Manager. The three open positions will be filled from members of the Negotiations Committee.

If you have any questions or comments about the bargaining process, please get in touch with the Negotiations Committee Chair, UWOSA Vice President Deb Novakowski. Deb can be reached by e-mail or at extension 87574.
